Japanese Vintage dolls Hime Daruma
These dolls are a traditional craft of Matsuyama. Children who play with Hime Daruma dolls are said to grow up healthy, and invalids who display them are said to recover quickly. They also make popular wedding and childbirth gifts. Typically, Japanese ‘Daruma’ dolls are red papier-mâché dolls in the form of a Buddhist saint without arms and legs. They’re weighted at the bottom so that they roll upright if they’re knocked over. These Hime Daruma in female form are unusual.
